With the upcoming release of WordPress 3.0 I have been working diligently to completely rewrite the Recipe Press core code to make use of custom post types and custom taxonomies. This change will eliminate many of the bugs from the existing version and allow for much more flexibility. Some of the great new features that will become a part of this include:
- You get to choose if you want to use all the features. Optional features include:
- Categories
- Cuisine Types
- Serving Sizes
- Recipe Times (prep, cook, total)
- Featured recipes
- Visibility options (public, private, password protected).
- Scheduled posts.
- Hierarchical categories, and recipes can be in multiple categories.
- Addition of cuisine type using a custom taxonomy.
- Recipes will be included in the native Search functions
- Better use of the Featured Image
- Custom Fields that work just like the custom fields in posts and pages.
- No additional database tables to manage! All data will be stored in the default WordPress tables.
In addition to all of these new features, the existing widgets will be optimized to use the new custom taxonomies, and new widgets are being developed.
I am working on this full time right now and hope to have a beta for this new version out for testing early next week. Watch this space for instructions on how to get the latest version.
Notice: This new upgrade will change how you use Recipe Press, but for the better. Before the final release I will create an importer to bring in your existing recipes and store them in the correct format, and remove any old data.
Stay tuned for more information!
Your plugin fails every time i try to run it. it keeps giving me a fatal error.
What is the error you are getting? Also, what version of PHP is running on your server? You must be running PHP5 or the plugin will not run, sorry.
Is there any release date for it?
Look forward to the new release. I just created a recipe share blog in which I’m using recipe press to manage the recipes. How soon before you think you will release? Thanks!
I am hoping to put a beta release out very soon. Watch this blog for more details.
The new release has some exciting new features and I can’t wait to try it out.
Is there an update on the Import function? I’m trying to install the new release on my development server.
Also: Since RP now uses custom post types, does that mean that Search will work? (if so: yay)
Yes, search should work. There are some issues with templating that I am working on now. I hope to add in the Import function again in a future release.
I had a question about the plugin. Is there any way to have the recipe comment created by the users on the site, so that they could share their own recipes with other users?
I am not quite sure what it is you mean by “recipe comment created by the users on the site”. What are you trying to ask?
Sorry about the mish-moshed sentence. What I was hoping you could answer for me was whether or not you could create a recipe creation permission in RecipePress/BP and assign to a user role, allowing certain users access to the recipe creation without having them login to the backend of wordpress. I don’t know if maybe I need to add a user role plugin and tweak permissions individually, but that feature would be great.
Thanks in advance, again sorry for the confusion.
You do know that there is a public front end form that you can use, right? In versions earlier than 1.2 you add the /recipe-share slug to your site URL. In version 1.2 and great, due out tomorrow, you create a page then tell the plugin to display the form on that page. You can get a test version at https://sourceforge.net/projects/recipepress/files/ now.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing your great work! I found that this plugin clashes with Search Unleash plugin.
